Description
Located a short 25km east of Nyeri County, in Karatina. The Karie Washing station receives ripe cherries via 700 active members of the Rutuma Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). Together with 6 other sibling washing stations, the Rutuma FCS on average produce around 330 tonnes of green coffee annually. As an extension of the stable and high price that this coffee receives, the farmers of the cooperative have been applying more advance harvesting and agronomical techniques in order to maintain and increase the quality of coffee produced, to match and exceed market demands. The nature of this makeup of smallholder farmers means there is a variety of varietals received in the Kenya Karie mill. Coupled with the strict harvesting and processing methods, we believe this combination contributes to the balanced profile of this coffee.
